KUALA LUMPUR: Although no longer the sponsor for the yellow jersey of the overall winner for the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL), Telekom Malaysia (TM) remain a staunch supporter of the event.

This year, TM will play a significant role as the telecommunications partner for the LTDL which begins on Friday.

TM chief marketing officer Datuk Rozalila Abdul Rahman (pic) said their involvement with LTDL is proof of their support for sports.

“TM have been with LTDL since its inception 17 years ago and it is a testament of the company’s commitment towards the success of the event,” she said.

Since the beginning of LTDL in 1996, TM played a significant part in the event and have evolved from being a stage sponsor, title sponsor to the yellow jersey sponsor in the past.

LTDL chief operations officer Emir Abdul Jalal said he was delighted with the continuous support from TM despite not being the sponsor for the yellow jersey.

“We understand that companies have different directions each year, but we are glad that they are still with us,” said Emir.

“Having fewer sponsors is not a good thing for organising an event like this but we hope that companies that have been with us before will rethink on investing their brands through us again in the future.”

The LTDL this year is organised by the National Sports Council (NSC) after being organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the past two years.

The LTDL kicks off with a 20.3km individual time trial in Putrajaya and will end in Kuala Terengganu on Mar 4.
