ACCCIM to co-host Competition Act 2010 seminar
PETALING JAYA: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and ACCCIM Socio-economic Research Centre will be jointly organising a seminar on the Competition Act 2010 on Feb 23, to promote awareness and better understanding on how it would affect businesses.
“Most businesses and industries, especially the SMES (small and medium enterprises) may not be aware of the Malaysian Competition Act 2010 coming into force on Jan 1, 2012.
“More importantly, they may be ignorant of the impact of the act on the way they do business.
“Hopefully, the seminar will also help to clarify important aspects of the Act including how it is going to be implemented and its implications,” ACCCIM said in a statement yesterday.
The seminar will be officially opened by ACCCIM president Tan Sri William Cheng and will bring together Malaysia Competition Commission (MYCC) cartel investigations head Shagivarnam Ratnam and expert Chris Jose from Australia, partner of Freehills.
“These speakers will focus on three important issues that are related to the Competition Act.
“The topics that will be discussed are What is Competition law and how the system works; Explanations on the Guidelines of Competition Act and The Competition Law – Checklist and Red Flags and Indonesian Experience in Competition Law,” said ACCCIM.
The event will be co-organised by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor and klang chinese chamber of Commerce and Industry. The supporting organisations are MYCC, Freehills, Malaysia Retailer-chains Association, SMI Association of Malaysia and Branding Association of Malaysia.
English will be used as the main medium at the seminar.
