STATIONERY, snacks and books might be essentials that many of us take for granted, but for the 90 children at SJKC Jinjang Selatan, they were a valuable gift.
As part of Living Hope Malaysia’s Festivities on Wheels programme, 50 children from SJKC Jinjang Selatan and 40 children from SK La Salle, Jinjang Utara received festive goodie bags sponsored by Ambank Group.
The festive goodie bags contained essentials like cakes, chocolates, drinks, biscuits, water bottles and colour pencils.
The children who received the goodie bags were from the urban poor, identified by the respective headmistresses of the schools.
In total, the Living Hope Malaysia’s Festivities On Wheels programme reached out to 1,000 poor and needy children, including the orang asli in rural areas.
The programme was made possible through Ambank Group’s contribution of RM25,000.
“We hope our contribution will make an impact in improving the lives of the recipients,” Ambank Group Central regional director Leslie Lee said.
Living Hope Malaysia is a corporate social responsibility arm that aspires to be the voice of the poor, needy, and marginalised children both locally and internationally.
“I strongly believe that it is the role of the corporate bodies who are in a position to help to improve the living condition of these children,” Living Hope founder and chairman Dr Peggy Wong said.
“No child wishes to be born into poverty. They have no choice in the matter,” she added.
Living Hope has helped 27,201 underprivileged children through various programmes such as the “One Egg-one Child” Feeding Program, “Educate a Child” Program, “Channel of Hope” Distribution Programme, “Festivities on Wheels” Programme, 46 Toy and Book libraries in Sabah, with 48 more to come in Sarawak.
