TWO burglars broke into a Chinese temple in Jalan Belatuk, Puchong Jaya in the wee hours of the morning earlier this week and escaped with donation money of at least RM5,000.

Qi Xian Nu Temple committee member Ling Yuk Long said the incident happened at about 4am on a Monday morning, when temple caretaker Kong Siew Chen heard a sound coming from the prayer hall on the first floor.

“She stays on the ground floor with her sister and when she heard the noise, they thought that it was coming from the nearby multi-purpose hall because there was an event taking place there as well.

“When they entered the hall in the morning, they saw that the front iron grill was removed and the two donation boxes were upside-down,” said Kong.

Selangor MCA Youth chief Dr Kow Cheong Wei, who visited the temple with several officers from the Serdang police station, said the two men were caught on cameras in the temple and both were dressed in black shirts, pants and shoes.

“The footage have been handed over to the police for investigations. This temple is located at a dead-end road and we have asked the police to patrol the temple grounds during their rounds. Having police presence would help deter such incidents and the police have agreed to our request,” he said.

Kong said that their donation boxes were emptied out about twice a year and he estimated that the burglars got away with at least RM5,000.

“We last emptied the box about four months ago,” said Kong.
