RESIDENTS in some areas in Selayang are unhappy with the irregularity of rubbish collection as the new contractors lacked in management skills.

Templer Park assemblyman Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said complaints on rubbish collection had increased since rubbish collection was taken over by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) from Alam Flora last year.

“Since the council took over, there have been various issues.

“Residents in some areas are aware of the schedule so when the trucks come on random days, they are unprepared. The local council is not handson when it comes to monitoring rubbish collection,” he said during the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) vouchers distribution which was held at the SMK Darul Ehsan Selayang Baru.

It is the sixth session in the Selayang area for this month and 6,000 recipients have benefited from this programme.

It was estimated that there are 10,000 people who are eligible for the scheme in the area. Each eligible recipient received RM500.

Subahan said it BR1M was a good scheme that helped people with needs.

“I hope the Government continues with this scheme because it is a good way to get in touch with the grass root and we can listen to the people better,” said Subahan, adding that many residents also took the opportunity to bring up issues affecting them.

About twenty volunteers from Taman Templer voluntary committee helped out in the event.
