Keeping an eye for the look

Participants face off in online popularity contest

-

IF YOU think you have the “look” and can get the votes, the Gatsby Like My Look contest is something you should be looking forward to the next time it rolls around again.

Last year’s contest, organised by Mandom Malaysia Sdn Bhd, had students of public institutions of higher learning scrambling to get votes to win the grand prize of an Ipad2, RM500 in cash, second place prize of an ipod Touch and RM300, and an ipod Nano and RM200 for third place. There were also consolation prizes and product hampers up for grabs.

Fourteen institutions of higher learning — UMP Pahang, UUM Kedah, USM Penang, UTHM Johor, UPM Selangor, UMT Terengganu, UMK Kelantan, UMS Sabah, UM Kuala Lumpur, UPSI Perak, UKM Selangor, UTEM Melaka, UNIMAS Sarawak and UITM Selangor — took part in the event, with more than 1,700 participants attempting to win votes on Gatsby’s website.

The contest started on Nov 1 and saw students voting for their favourite contestants. The participants with the most votes took home the prize.

A prize-giving ceremony for the top 10 winners of the contest was recently organised in Novotel Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Mandom president Daniel Chin, vice president Kuniyuki Ota, assistant advertising and product planning manager Chin Kok Weng joined the ten lucky winners during the event.

Chin thanked those who attended for their continuous support of Gatsby and congratulated the winners as well as the people behind the scenes who had made the event a successful one.

First-place winner Ong Shu Wei said, “It was an experience I won’t forget as it was just having some good friends to click ‘Like’. It was really easy and I thank my parents for supporting me and always trusting me in what I do. I also learned to not give up and grab the opportunity if there is a chance to win.”

In second place was Surreshan Shanmugam from Universiti Malaysia Pahang, followed by Yee Yeong Chin from Universiti Malaya in third. Seven consolation prizes went to Mohd Sharul Azam (UITM), Khairul Annuar Riulee (UITM), Eric Hoo Wei Xiang(um), Tan Li Jin (UKM), Kamarul Ariffin (UPM), Muhd Muzakkir Afiq (UPSI) and Muhammad Zahd Abdul Aziz (UKM).

The Gatsby Like My Look Contest will be back again this year and it will be open to all university students.
