Equipping students with the right skills

-

SWINBURNE University of Technology Sarawak Campus has been producing graduates equipped with skills that match the needs of industry. It achieves this by combining teaching, research and industry expertise with a supportive real-world learning environment.

Over the years, many Swinburne Sarawak graduates have found careers with some of the biggest names in the industry. The impressive employability of its graduates could be attributed to the university’s programmes that are designed to tackle real-world issues and provide hands-on learning.

The university’s Professional Learning Model enables undergraduates to undertake a range of experiential learning activities. They receive feedback on their development of generic skills while becoming increasingly capable in their chosen discipline.

It provides students with a structured range of development opportunities and options to speed up or spread out their studies.

Swinburne Sarawak’s programmes in commerce/business, ICT, design, engineering and science are identical to those of its home campus in Melbourne. Students choose pathways to suit their individual interests and career aspirations.

The curriculum is sourced from Swinburne’s home campus, and quality mechanisms ensure that the same high standards are maintained. A Swinburne degree, therefore, has the same standards whether one studies at the Kuching or Melbourne campus.

Swinburne Sarawak graduates are awarded the same internationally recognised Australian degree, just as their peers at the Melbourne campuses.

While students may complete their studies at the Sarawak Campus, they may also transfer to complete them at Swinburne’s other campuses in Melbourne.

Undergraduates may also go on an exchange programme for a term or two in Australia on Swinburne Sarawak tuition fees.

In addition to obtaining a degree awarded by an institution that has been in existence for over a hundred years, studying at Swinburne Sarawak is only a fraction of the cost of studying in Australia.

With the lower cost of living in Kuching, pursuing higher education at Swinburne Sarawak is an attractive option.

Students have the opportunity to experience depth of learning in their chosen discipline and also the breadth of complementary study options. The majority of its three-year undergraduate degrees require undertaking a professional major with either a co-major or two minors from a diverse range of offerings from other discipline areas. This gives students flexibility and choice, and the opportunity to tailor the composition of their degree.

Besides studies, there are lots to do at Swinburne Sarawak. Students may join a club and take part in activities that are of interest to them. Swinburne currently has about 4,000 students, with 20% from over 50 countries. By 2013, student numbers are expected to reach 5,000.

Academics comprise a highly experienced team from Australia, Germany, India, Iraq, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand and Singapore. This diversity gives Swinburne Sarawak an international atmosphere.

On campus, students have access to advanced facilities. Two fully furnished on-campus hostels provide 430 students with all the conveniences of home.
