Foundation at President College
KEEN on pursuing a programme with limitless opportunities and a secured pathway? The Foundation in Science at President College is a good choice for you.
While most foundation programmes are ‘closed’, focusing on one or a few university and degree pathways, the Foundation at President College prides itself in having one of the widest pathways and options of any foundation in the country. With 110 degree options at 84 recognised universities in more than nine countries, the Foundation at President has the right pathway for each student that attends the programme.
The college constantly adds and develops partnerships.
It began linking with Canadian universities in 2011 and plans to add 18 more universities across three countries in 2012 to enable students to benefit and find a university to best suit their individual needs.
“Pathways are very specific these days. No two students share the same needs and it is impossible for a handful of universities to provide the correct fit for students,” says President College principal Mathieu Chauvinc.
“To ensure that students have the best opportunities in their career and life, we must match the student’s academic style and level, costs, future career plans, social environment and the wishes of parents and students to the choice of university.
“We go to great lengths to ensure every student gets what they want at Malaysian universities or universities abroad.”
The college has a specialised progression team to look into the career, degree and university options.
No expense is spared for the students. Progression teams often visit up to 15 partner universities a year to gain insight and feedback on student performances and changes so as to improve the Foundation at the College.
Updates and improvements are constant and key to why so many President Foundation students excel at universities.
One example is the Rm1mil investment put into an anatomy lab specially built for foundation students to cope with the challenges of first year medicine.
In choosing the pathways for students, the college ensures degrees are recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, the Malaysian Public Services Department, the Malaysian Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Associations along with relevant regulatory bodies.
The basis of the Foundation programme is to prepare students specifically for the courses they choose and as such, the Foundation at President has specific channels for students depending on their options.
Students pursuing pre-medical, dental or pharmacy-based options are given additional preparation which includes anatomy and physiology.
Students opting for specific universities are also given extra preparation like language courses, ethics, laboratory skills and entrance exams preparation.
This system allows students to tailor their preparation specifically to the programme and university they choose so as to enable them to excel whereever they go.
Activities and events also form an important basis of student life at the college. Students are exposed to hospital internships and are given talks by deans from top universities as well as experts in their fields.
This allows students to understand the workings of their career options as well as get motivated for what is in store for them.
The student council at the college is also active with activities designed to foster a close bond between students.
This bond is one of the hallmarks of the Foundation programme at President and it allows students to work as teams no matter where they pursue their studies.
During the Foundation programme, students are exposed to a full day of lectures and a range of learning methods suited to the subjects at hand. Classes are taught with the latest in multimedia presentations and online support.
All students are also put through the college’s exclusive diagnostic learning system and 360-degree feedback to ensure academic success.
Students at President College also have the latest in education technology – Zest, to support their learning needs.
The system, which is exclusive to the college, enables students to manage their classes, communicate their problems, and manage their learning resources.
Zest also has an e-learning component which allows students to have their notes, slides, e-books, podcasts and video lectures online.
The system is designed to keep pace with the actual learning in class and enables students to enhance their learning with the best resources online that are either produced or vetted by the subject specialists.
A new innovation launched recently is to port the system to mobile smart phones on the Android platform. Zest now has an app that allows students to learn on the go.
The college has expanded its reach to students in the northern region with the opening of its new branch in Penang in January. The new campus offers the same courses as the KL campus.
