EAIC: Only 39 complaints made on enforcement personnel

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has received only 39 complaints since it was formed last year,

Its chairman Datuk Heliliah Yusof described this as “not too encouraging” and said the public should provide more information on misconduct among enforcement personnel.

“I don’t know why the public is not approaching us. Maybe it is because we are still new and there are other bodies that handle complaints against government agencies such as the Public Complaints Bureau,” she said.

The EAIC was specially formed to handle issues involving enforcement personnel.

Of the complaints, 34 were against the police and one each against the Immigration Department, National Registration Department and the enforcement division of the Local Government and Housing Ministry.

She said the other two complaints were against other parties beyond the commission’s jurisdiction.

“Most of the complainants expressed dissatisfaction over the manner the police conducted their investigations, including the time taken to complete the probe and in deciding the next course of action,” said Heliliah.

She said that since the commission’s jurisdiction was very specific, the public could be assured that their complaints would be investigated.

“We carried out investigations into each of the complaints and forwarded reports to the relevant authorities such as the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission, Attorney-general’s Chambers and the disciplinary boards of the agencies concerned, for further action.”
