MACC to certify CEIOS for companies in anti-graft move

-

KUALA LUMPUR: As part of the initiative to stamp out graft in all levels of government and the private sector, the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) will certify selected senior officers from government agencies and the private sector as Certified Integrity Officers (CEIOS) to assist the commission.

The commission is expected to certify 60 CEIOS by year-end and will continue to work in their respective agencies and companies to keep an eye on corrupt practices.

Malaysian Anti-corruption Academy (MACA) director Abdul Wahab Abdul Aziz said the programme was first conceptualised in 2006 when two government-linked companies requested for MACC staff to be stationed in their respective offices to monitor graft.

Wahab said the idea was wellreceived. Due to the good response, the Corporate Integrity Development Centre of MACA has developed modules towards hosting of CEIO programmes.

The CEIO will be responsible for implementing and conducting reviews on integrity enhancement programmes within the agencies to ensure transparency and efficiency as well as determine whether the Government departments and private sector are realising their purpose in an effective and lawful way.

He said the pilot project was conducted for six months in 2010 with 24 officers from government agencies and the private sector. They received their certificates from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Feb 27.

Petronas, Telekom Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), Amanah Raya Berhad and various enforcement agencies including Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Immigration Department were among those certified at the event.

The MACC was mandated to lead the fight against corruption as one of the seven NKRAS of the GTP.
