Some transsexuals forced to go into prostitution, says EPU officer
TRANSSEXUALS, also known as “Mak Nyah”, should be given a chance to lead a positive life and career, reported Sinar Harian.
Assistant Director of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Saidatun Najmiah Jamil, said that society’s view on the group had forced some of them to resort to prostitution to make a living.
“Not many organisations are willing to reach out and give them a chance to change their lives.
“Mak Nyah need our support so that they do not stray any further,” she said during a community programme entitled “Self-improvement and transformation of the transsexual lifestyle”.
The programme was organised in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s call for the Government to be more responsive and sensitive to the people’s aspirations.
