One ‘lucky’ Tour for Guardini

-

KUALA TERENGGANU: After setting a new record as the only rider with 11 stage wins in the history of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL), Andrea Guardini is setting his sights on performing well in the Milan-san Remo (March 17) which is part of the Classic series in Europe.

The Farnese Vini rider not only beat Graeme Brown’s overall nine stage wins, he also set a new record as the only rider to chalk up the most number of wins in an edition of LTDL after winning his sixth stage yesterday.

Although chalking impressive victories in every bunch sprint contested in the LTDL this year, Guardini remains realistic of his chances in the Milan-san Remo.

“Sure, I grabbed a lot of wins in the Tour here but it will be a different story in the Milan-san Remo,” said the Italian.

“There will be more big teams participating and it would be difficult for me to score a win.”

Guardini, who is hopeful of making the Farnese squad for the Giro d’italia in May, said his luck changed completely when he came for the LTDL.

“Before that, I was without a single stage win in three races (Tour of San Luis, Tour of Oman and Tour of Qatar).

“It was a combination of bad luck and tough opponents in those races. But here I was very lucky.

“The team was built around me to deliver stage victories and they worked hard for me,” said Guardini.
