Rockslide near apartments in Ampang
SEVERAL large granite rocks became dislodged and crashed to the ground during a rockslide which occurred over the weekend.
The rockslide happened on Saturday at around 3am on the slope below the Mutiara Court Apartments at Taman Bukit Permai, Ampang.
According to Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officer Mohd Khairuddin Mohd, the roots of several trees growing on the slope had caused the rocks to loosen.
“We are in the midst of clearing the trees including pulling out all their roots. We will also call Ikram (Public Works Institute of Malaysia) to conduct a further study on the area for action to be taken,” he said, adding that the study would also reveal whether the other rocks on the slope were stable.
Khairuddin said MPAJ would also begin a monitoring programme twice a year for slopes and would inform landowners or carry out maintenance on government land should it be necessary.
Teratai assemblyman Jenice Lee said the mini-landslide occurred because the slopes around the area were not strengthened.
“We have already spent Rm4mil to repair slopes at Mutiara Court and have met with the developer and asked them to pay half. But they refused and until now, they are still allowed to carry out development,” she told reporters at the site.
Lee said she had also applied for funding under the Rm300mil Selangorku Grant to carry out projects in the Teratai area including building new basketball courts, library and ICT centre, multi-purpose hall and road widening for hightraffic areas.
