Family needs a home
Paralysed man hopes to be united with family under one roof
IT WAS supposed to be a dream home for Michael Sauri and his family, but the dream came crashing down after an unfortunate accident which left him paralysed and bedridden.
Michael, a victim of a hit-and-run accident in 2005, is now being cared for by his sister Theresa Sauri in her small apartment in Taman Setapak Indah Jaya.
He had paid a deposit for a low-cost flat in Desa Ria just before the accident. The project was completed in 2006.
His wife and four children, who live in Pantai Dalam, visit him during the weekends and holidays.
They are living separately due to some family misunderstandings.
Michael’s wife A. Letchumi, 37, works as a cleaner and earns about RM650 a month. Her eldest child is going to college while her third and fourth children are going to school in Brickfields.
“My second daughter is a bit slow, so she doesn’t go to school and needs care. I send her to my sister-in-law’s house while my eldest lives with another brother,” said Letchumi.
“My family is separated due to unfortunate circumstances but we would like to be together. I want to take care of my husband and the children want to be with their father,” she added.
The family’s plight was brought to the attention of Persatuan Kebajikan Kasih (PKK), which has been trying to help Michael get his dream home and reunite the family.
Committee member Victor Anthony Roche said they found out about Michael’s condition from the local church.
“He just wants to be reunited with his family, but they don’t have a home of their own,” said Roche.
Association president Peter A. Dass said they were contributing RM3,000 to get the ball rolling.
He said the family needs about RM28,000 to settle the payment for their house.
For those who would like to make contribution to Michael and his family can do so to PKK Taman Mutiara branch Cheras or call Peter at 012-213 4468.
