CYBERJAYA welcomed its newest modern building when Menara Hasil, the Inland Revenue Board’s (IRB) new headquarters, was officially opened on Thursday.

The Rm275mil 20-storey building was declared opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Menara Hasil sits on a 7.17ha-land in Persiaran Rimba Permai in Cyber 8. Work on the building started in April 2009 and it was completed late last year.

The building was built on the “passive low energy building” (PLEB) concept especially its lighting, air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation system to reduce energy consumption.

Sunshading hoods and louvres are used to achieve a lower overall thermal transmittance value (OTTV), which is among the keys to reducing energy consumption as the components function as heat filters.

The building was also built according to the bioclimatic low-energy design (BLED) concept that took into consideration development in the surrounding areas, the weather and the sun’s orientation.

The sun shading devices are placed at areas that are exposed to sunshine.

Among the facilities in the building are a theatre-style conference hall with a seating capacity of 1,500 people and six meeting rooms with the main one capable of accommodating 150 people. This meeting room also comes with a dining hall.

For the public, a total of 1,682 parking bays have been prepared.

IRB chief executive officer Datuk Dr Shukor Mahfar said some 1,400 personnel from 19 divisions would be engaged at the new building.

He said they were those from the board’s previous headquarters at Blok 9 of the Government Complex in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

“They started moving into Menara Hasil in stages since last November. Now we are operating fully from here,” he said.
