WAO gets RM50,000 boost

Brand and pharmacy chain hold three-month-long campaign to raise funds

-

FEMININE hygiene brand, Lactacyd partnered the Guardian Pharmacy chain to raise funds for the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) recently.

The collaboration saw RM5 from the sale of each Lactacyd special pack, sold exclusively in Guardian stores nationwide, allocated to the WAO over a three-month period.

The manufacturers of Lactacyd, Sanofi, which is a diversified healthcare company, had pledged a minimum donation of RM40,000 to WAO.

However, support from loyal customers of Lactacyd and Guardian Pharmacy was overwhelming and the campaign had managed to raise RM50,000 for the NGO.

“Sanofi is proud to have championed this effort in support of the wonderful work by WAO in providing service and advocacy towards the most vulnerable in our society, battered women and their children,” said Sanofi head of consumer health Ng Hock Guan at the cheque presentation ceremony.

“It is truly heartening to see the tremendous support from the public, particularly Lactacyd customers, in making this campaign a success,” he added.

WAO executive director Ivy Josiah received the cheque on behalf of the NGO.

The cheque presentation ceremony was held to commemorate International Women’s Day 2012.

Josiah said: “Sanofi has demonstrated a real commitment to CSR by pledging RM40,000 no matter how the sales turned out. This is the kind of commitment WAO needs as we have the huge task of raising Rm1mil a year to ensure women and children in Malaysia receive the necessary protection, and counselling when faced with abuse. Our heartfelt ‘Thank You’ goes to Sanofi.”

Guardian Merchandising general manager Soon Ai Lan said: “Being the authority in health and beauty, we want to reinforce our dedication to community enrichment programmes. Our collaboration with partners such as Sanofi helps to reaffirm our commitment to help the underprivileged, primarily women and children.”

The WAO is a non-governmental organisation with a vision to create a society that upholds the principles of gender equality, where all women enjoy their human rights in every sphere.
