A run for Malaysians only

Klang Executive Club to organise second unity run

-

ONLY Malaysians are eligible to take part in the KEC 10km Unity Run at the Klang Executive Club (KEC) on March 25.

KEC chairman Datuk Steven Tee said the aim of the event was to bring together the community for a healthy activity.

“We are not organising the event for commercial reasons but to promote a healthy lifestyle among the residents in Klang. So we have decided to limit the participation to Malaysians only,” Steven said after a sponsorship ceremony.

The sponsors for the event are Acmar International, Seri Acmar School, Milo, 100Plus, New Balance and Gardenia. This year’s event will also be part of KEC 25th anniversary celebrations. The run will have eight categories— men’s and women’s open (10km); men’s junior veteran, men’s senior veteran, women’s veteran, boys and girls (7km) and family (3km) — and offers a total cash purse of RM6,000. The family category is for members only. Each family should comprise parents and a child aged below 12.

Organising chairman T. Kanniappan said the run was being organised for the second year.

“Last year, the distance was 7km and we had almost 2,000 participants.

“This year, we have decided to make the event a 10km run. We had received a lot of enquiries from foreigners but we are not keen to accept them.

“We have a vision with unity as the theme. We want participants from schools in Klang to make the event an interesting affair.

“We also have offered KEC members a special discount on the registration fee. We want our members to be part of this healthy activity,” Kanniappan said.
