Public set to punish Tang or Leung backers at Legco polls
HONG KONG: People now backing Henry Tang or Leung Chun-ying will pay a price for such support if they run in the Legislative Council elections this year, Democratic Party vice-chairman Emily Lau Wai-hing believes.
For public dismay at the chief executive election will be reflected at the legislative polls in September, Lau said on RTHK’S Letter to Hong Kong. And the mudslinging in the race serves as a reminder of an undemocratic system.
Lau said a “messenger” from the mainland – a person sent to Hong Kong to collect information – had asked for her thoughts on the chief executive election and how it could affect the Legislative Council (Legco) elections.
“I said, since most Hong Kong people resent not having the right to vote in the small-circle election and many do not like either Mr Tang or Mr Leung ... if either one of them is chosen he will become a target of the Legco election campaign,” she added.

Lau told listeners too that the tussle between Tang and Leung is also a fight between two factions of the Communist Party and also a tussle between tycoons who prospered under British rule and people still chasing rewards.
That two pro-beijing candidates are going into a battle for ballots on Sunday has to be viewed in the light of the upcoming 18th Communist Party Congress and leadership changes in Beijing, Lau added. — The Standard
