I want to stay at Liverpool, says striker Suarez

-

LONDON: Luis Suarez fired Liverpool back to Wembley and revealed he wants to sign a new Anfield deal.

The Uruguayan hitman has endured a tough season with his eight-match ban for racist abuse and was expected to quit the Kop in the summer.

But he struck a brilliant opener to help sink Stoke 2-1 on Sunday and set up a possible all-Merseyside FA Cup semi-final with Everton next month at the stadium where Liverpool won the League Cup three weeks ago.

Suarez – a target for Paris St Germain – insists he would be happy to open talks over a contract extension at Anfield.

He said: “I want to stay. Despite everything that has happened, I am very happy here, on and off the pitch.

“Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and I have a contract until 2016 and already want to renew. The manager is confident in me and that is important, especially after being out for eight games.” Boss Kenny Dalglish is excited by the prospect of a first Merseyside derby at Wembley for 23 years.

Everton must win their replay at Sunderland first but Dalglish says the locals will be rooting for them.

He said: “Obviously Merseyside will be hoping it is Everton – then the people round here can all have a day out again.

“To get to Wembley is an incentive for anybody.”
