DURING a cosy and romantic dinner to mark their second wedding anniversary, 31-year-old Ariffin Hamzah gave his wife a card that partly read: “I will love you till I die.”

He lost his life the next day when his car skidded into a 6m-deep ravine at Km242.3 of the southbound North-south Expressway, Harian Metro reported.

The incident happened at about 7.30am on Tuesday, while the victim was travelling to work in Alor Gajah, Malacca, from his home in Senawang, Negri Sembilan.

He left behind his wife Haliza Hashim, 28, and their nine-month-old son Izqarin Wafi.

Sister-in-law Nornomi Mad Som recalled that the last time she saw Ariffin was at a family gathering last Sunday at her mother’s house in Kampung Taboh Naning, near Alor Gajah.

“He jokingly told me then to take good care of my mother,” she said, when met at the Tampin Hospital mortuary.

Afer the family dinner, she followed the couple and their child back to Senawang.

Nornomi said they rested a while at Tampin, where he bought the card for Hazila.

> A 32-year-old woman was allegedly held captive and made a sex slave for a week by her boyfriend in a budget hotel room in the Chow Kit area in Kuala Lumpur, Harian Metro said in another report.

In the meantime, the woman’s family had made a “missing person” report after she left home with RM1,500 borrowed from her mother at around 5pm on March 9.

The woman was reunited with her family after city police called her father in Hulu Kelang to say she was being held for questioning after escaping from her alleged captivity on March 16.

The woman said she followed the man, whom she had befriended a month ago, on his motorbike. Upon reaching the city, he rented a room for the both of them.

> A cafe in Ipoh, believed to be a front for a vice joint, circulated pictures of sexy women in the Bercham and Tasek neighbourhoods to promote its seedy business, Sinar Harian reported.

Following a tip-off, police raided the place last Thursday night and nabbed 14 Vietnamese women.

“Our investigations showed they had come into the country with legal travel documents but misused their social visit passes,” said Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.
