Woman in Penang loses two teeth in freak accident

-

A WOMAN received 60 stitches to her mouth after she was hit by a stone that was sent flying by a grass cutter in Nibong Tebal, reported Nanyang Siang Pau.

Yu Lai Xin, 44, lost two teeth and had her dentures shattered in the freak accident.

Apparently, a contractor’s worker was cutting grass nearby and the fast rotating blades struck a stone about the size of a palm, launching it into the air.

Yu was collecting clothes at her house compound when she suddenly felt sharp pain in her mouth.

She was shocked to see blood oozing out and two of her teeth dropping off during the 2.30pm incident on Monday.

She said the contractor, upon learning about the accident, gave his workers RM50 and told them to send her to the Sungai Bakap Hospital.

Yu, who lodged a police report, hoped the contractor, who is believed to be appointed by the local council, would compensate her.

Bukit Tambun assemblyman Law Choo Kiang said he would urge the local authorities to beef up security and safety when carrying out such tasks.

> Sin Chew Daily reported that former Mr Malaysia Richard Tan Cheang Boo, 43, has died.

His wife Teoh Siew Theng, 42, said Tan stopped working as a lorry driver four years ago after he was floored by diabetes and stroke.

Tan was paralysed on the right side of the body and had a toe on the right leg amputated because of his diabetes.

He won the Mr Penang title three times and Mr Malaysia once in the late 1980s in the light heavyweight category.
