Police: No Malaysian involved in Haadyai blasts

-

SUBANG JAYA: No Malaysian was involved in the recent bomb blasts in Haadyai, Thailand.

Bukit Aman Special Task Force (Operations and Counter Terrorism) director Comm Datuk Fuzi Md Harun said his department had been in contact with their Thai counterparts and they confirmed that no Malaysian was suspected to be involved in the attack.

Two Malaysians were killed and 27 injured in the blasts at a hotel on Saturday.

The blasts occurred the same day as a series of explosions in the southern Thai town of Yala that killed 11 people and injured more than 100 others, none of them Malaysians.

Comm Fuzi said police in Kelantan had been directed to be on alert following the attacks.

“We are also in constant touch with our counterparts across the border to ensure that none of the suspected terrorists involved try to take refuge here,” he said after launching a high-profile policing programme at SS15 Subang Jaya.

Selangor police chief Deputy Commdatuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah was also present.

Meanwhile, commenting on whether JI militant Zulkifli Hir, better known as Marwan, was killed as reported in an air strike in southern Philippines in February, Comm Fuzi said police were still awaiting confirmation based on a DNA analysis.

“Wesent a team there three weeks ago for a discussion with our counterparts on the current situation.”

Comm Fuzi also said that his department was monitoring a number of suspected Malaysian terrorists in neighbouring countries and were working together with the authorities there to nab them.

“We have identified several suspects at large in neighbouring countries and will take appropriate measures to bring them to justice.”
