Pakatan’s ‘supreme’ leaders are hypocrites, says Khairy
PETALING JAYA: The three “supreme” leaders in Pakatan Rakyat are not democratically elected, yet they question the integrity of the electoral system, Barisan Nasional MPS said.
“They are the biggest hypocrites,” saidumno Youth chief and Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, adding that the Opposition coalition should first reform from within.
He said PKR’S ketua umum (de facto leader) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat were not elected leaders of their respective parties.
“But, there is no avenue for members to challenge the self-appointed positions that come with great powers,” he said.
Kota Belud MP Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said those in Pakatan should clean their own backyard before criticising others.
Singling out the PKR, Abdul Rahman said the party had failed to act on complaints of massive electoral fraud during the party elections in 2010.
This resulted in leaders like Datuk Zaid Ibrahim leaving the PKR because their complaints were disregarded.
Abdul Rahman also took Pakatan to task over its objection to a proposal by the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on electoral reforms to allow Sabahans and Sarawakians working in the peninsula to be postal voters.
“Why did they object when, at the same time, they demand that the Election Commission (EC) ensures no Malaysians are denied their right to vote?” he asked.
He added that if Pakatan’s concern was the integrity of the electoral roll, it should consider that 40% of voters in the United States and 15% in Britain were “doubtful voters”.
In comparison, he said, the EC in Malaysia recorded only 0.3% of doubtful voters, totalling 42,000.
Abdul Rahman said voters in other countries forwarded their complaints straight to the authorities, but in Malaysia, the Opposition took to the streets although the authorities continuously improved the electoral process.
