Events in conjunction with King’s installation
KUALA LUMPUR: Public programmes have been lined up for the installation of Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Tuanku Hajah Haminah as the 14th Yang di-pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong next week.
Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the programmes, scheduled for April 11 to 21, would give the people a better understanding of the monarchy system.
Rais, who is the installation organising committee chairman, said the installation ceremony and royal banquet on April 11 would be followed by thanksgiving prayers (April 12) and a special Friday prayer sermon (April 13).
Other events include a royal golf tournament at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam on April 14, the “Raja Kita” (Our King) exhibition at the former Istana Negara (April 15), Queen-meets-the-children session at the new Istana Negara (April 21) and “Raja Dan Rakyat Berpisah Tiada” (King and People Are Not Parted) concert at Dataran Merdeka (April 21).
“What is important is that the public can participate and add colour to the historical event,” Rais said.
Rais was speaking to reporters after an audience with their majesties on Wednesday to submit proposals for the installation.
Over 50,000 booklets on the Yang di-pertuan Agong would be distributed to schools and non-governmental organisations across the country, he said. — Bernama
