MP: Stop bashing EC
Don’t use commission as a scapegoat, Shahrir tells Opposition
A BARISAN Nasional MP told the Opposition to stop attacking the Election Commission (EC).
Datuk Shahrir Samad (Bn-johor Baru) said the Opposition should stop bashing the EC and using it as a scapegoat by smearing its image.
“We must not keep blaming the EC or the police as if they are not doing their job.
“The people know and will judge which side is better. We cannot say the system is perfect only when we win,’’ Shahrir said when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said the EC would meet all MPS to answer their questions on April 16.
He said MPS who alleged electoral roll irregularities in their constituencies would have a chance to resolve their grouses at the meeting.
Nazri said the meeting would continue until all matters had been resolved.
He added that he could not guarantee the 22 recommendations in the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) Report on Electoral Reforms would be implemented before the

next general election.
“I cannot guarantee anything because only the Prime Minister has the power to call for an election and we do not know when that will happen.
“We cannot force the EC to implement any of the recommendations as this can be seen as a sign that the Government is interfering and ordering the EC to make changes”, he told Nurul Izzah Anwar (Pkr-lembah Pantai).
