MAICCI to provide valuable resource to Indian businessmen

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Many Indian entrepreneurs and businessmen find it difficult to get loans to expand their operations because of financial problems, Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) president Datuk K.K. Eswaran said.

He said most of them were unable to meet the criteria because they had been blacklisted for non-payment of earlier loans or had acted as guarantors for unpaid loans.

Eswaran said many were found to have debts of between RM15,000 and RM30,000 but they did not have the capacity to repay.

“MAICCI, together with the Indian Community ETP Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department and Suria Cooperative, is working out a strategy to assist these people to expand their businesses,” he said yesterday.

He said more than 6,000 people attended the five forums of the Malaysian Indian Economic Conference (MIEC), which were organised to empower the economic agenda of the Malaysian Indian community.

“The forums created a platform for every Malaysian Indian to participate and play their role in transforming the economic landscape of the community,” he said.

Eswaran said the sixth forum is scheduled to be held at Dewan Puspanita, Jalan Hose, here, tomorrow from 9am to 5pm, while another two would be held in Seremban (April 15) and Ipoh (April 21).

He said the data collated from the eight forums would be utilised to draw up an MIEC blueprint that would be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
