Huang Tao takes second round clubhouse lead

JOHOR BARU: Huang Tao of Taiwan shot an even-par 72 to take the second round clubhouse lead at the PGM Johor Masters despite struggling with erratic drives.

The teenager mixed his scorecard with three birdies against as many bogeys for a two-day total of five-under 139 at the RM180,000 Asian Developmen­t Tour (ADT) event.

The 21-year-old Huang Tao, who played in the morning, struggled with his driver at the halfway stage of the PGM Johor Masters, which was delayed in the afternoon due to lightning.

Play was eventually suspended at 7.10pm due to fading light.

“It was an okay round but I could have done better. The way I was hitting my driver, I’m lucky to escape with a 72. I’m happy withhowi’m playing but I’ll need to work on my driver,” said Huang Tao, a two-time winner in Taiwan.

Current ADT Order of Merit leader R. Nachimuthu of Malaysia, Michael Bibat of the Philippine­s and Japanese duo Masaki Sakata and Senroku Isa are joint fourth with a 142 total.

A total of 36 players have yet to complete the second round.
