Power of Omega-3 fatty acids

-

OMEGA-3 fatty acids are important to human health. It is termed as essential fatty acids (EFAS) as our body is not able to produce it. Key omega-3 includes Eicosapentaeonic acid (EPA) and Docosahexanoic acid (DHA), both found primarily in deep sea cold-water fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel and cod.

Another third omega-3, called Apha-linolenic acid (ALA), is found primarily in dark green leafy vegetables, flaxseed oils and certain vegetable oils. Benefits of Omega-3 include: Improve heart health Manage hypertension Support rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other auto-immune conditions

Manage depression and symptoms of other mental health problems.

Reduce the risk of cancer and cancer support

The American Health Association recommends that we eat tuna or salmon twice a week.

Symptoms of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency include fatigue, poor memory, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings or depression and poor circulation.

Our cell membranes are made of fats.

If we do not consume sufficient amount of Omega-3, our body will use bad fats to construct cell membranes.

This will result in less elasticity, a situation that has negative effect on the heart because it makes it harder to return to a resting state.

How to choose Omega-3 supplements?

Not all fish oil is created equal in terms of quality and purity. It is important to choose the good ones to provide the benefits that you want.

Below are points to take note when choosing the right supplement:

Get it from a reputable and trusted brand with a long history. This ensures that necessary checking is done from the raw material to the end product.

Amount of EPA and DHA. The lower amount is for maintenance purposes whereas the higher amount can reduce the risk of health issues.

Purity tested — molecular distilled. Ensure that the fish oil is tested for purity. One of the processes used is molecular distillation. It removes all the toxins from the oil, ensuring safety for human consumption.

Consuming the best quality Omega-3 supplements will help your heart health, brain health, joints, eyes and even your skin.
