Local pharmacy caters to patient and physician needs

-

ACCENT Wellness Compounding Pharmacy recently celebrated the opening of its new compounding facility.

Located on the second floor of Menara See Hoy Chan along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, the pharmacy features a fully equipped laboratory, a private consultation area and provides specialised services in bio-identical hormone therapy (BHRT), as well as pain management, dermatology, anti-ageing solutions, veterinary applications, paediatric and physician education and support.

The pharmacy is a joint venture with a Us-based medical incorporation and is one of the newest and most innovative compounding pharmacies that have been registered with the Health Ministry to offer their services to medical practitioners and the general public.

They are also the only compounding pharmacy in Malaysia registered with the Professional Compounding Chemist Association (PCCA) comprising an international network of compounding pharmacies with vast resources.

Working with patients and physicians, the compounding pharmacy can prepare a “customised” medication and compounds the medication in a special dosage form or delivery system suited for the patient.

For example, a compounding pharmacist can prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as a troche, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel, cream or ointment.

For patients experiencing difficulties in swallowing, the compounding pharmacist may incorporate the medicine into a suspension or syrup form.

There are several reasons why pharmacists compound prescription medications but it is usually attributed to patient non-compliance such as allergy to preservatives or dyes, or sensitivity to standard drug strengths.

With a prescriber’s consent, Accent Wellness’ compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication and alter its dosage form to make it easier for the patient to ingest.
