More students in Chinese schools to get Step Up pullout

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Star’s Step Up pullout will reach students in more Chinese schools — thanks to UOA Holdings Sdn Bhd which has contributed RM50,000 for its second sponsorship.

The Star’s executive director and group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai received the cheque from UOA Development Bhd property director Cecelia Chan at Menara UOA in Bangsar South here yesterday.

Chan said the sponsorship would give more children, especially the poor, a chance to learn and understand English.

“If children are to advance in education, they will need to learn English. Through the Step Up pullout, I hope more children will be able to practise their English,” she said.

Step Up is a 24-page bilingual education pullout for vernacular schools to offer an engaging and exciting method to teach and learn English.

It is similar to The Star’s NIE (Newspaper-inEducation) in terms of interactivity, providing a platform for students to submit their works for discussion as well as mini contests and four revision issues.

The full-colour, syllabus-based pullout is approved by the Education Ministry and is published every alternate Thursdays, twice a month for pupils from Years Four to Six.

Subscription is via schools only. To subscribe or to get further information, please call 037967 1777 from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
