DPM happy with Tunku Aziz’s stand on GTP

MUAR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has voiced his appreciation over former DAP vicechairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim’s views on the Government Transformation Programmes (GTP).

It was good of him to support the programmes initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, he said.

“He knew what measures were being taken by the Government to push Malaysia towards greater success,” Muhyiddin told reporters in Pagoh yesterday.

Muhyiddin said Tunku Abdul Aziz’s resignation from DAP was an example that should be followed by others.

Bernama had reported that Tunku Abdul Aziz made an impassioned call to the people to support Najib’s leadership.

Give Najib the chance and time to see his transformation programmes come into fruition, he was quoted as saying.

Tunku Abdul Aziz, who quit the party on Monday to defend his stand against the Bersih 3.0 demonstration, said: “What the Prime Minister has done now is the right thing and we need to support him.”

Najib’s transformation process for change would certainly take time, he said.

Asked for his views on whether Najib’s leadership would receive support in the coming general election with the changes he has made, Tunku Abdul Aziz said: “I am not a political analyst and I do not know how to speculate. But the process will take time, given the chance.

“In the past, wehave been screaming that the Government did not do this and that, but now the Government is listening, that is why I say, there was no need to protest ... (now) they want Bersih 4.0... What else do they want?” he asked.

Asked for his opinion on Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Tunku Abdul Aziz said since he became a columnist for the New Sunday Times, he did not agree with Anwar’s style of politics and that he had written an article titled “Stop the theatrics, Anwar, let Malaysians get on with their life”.

The article touched on rumours that the Federal Government would fall to the Opposition on Sept 16, 2008, with a number of Barisan Nasional MPS jumping to join the Opposition.

At another event yesterday, Muhyiddin launched a book about his father titled Tuan Guru Haji Mohd Yassin Tokoh Ilmuwan Islam Cemerlang.

It tells the story of Muhyiddin’s father who was a respected religious teacher.

Written by Abdul Latif Juffri AlJufri andamadbahri Mardi, it depicts the life of Mohd Yassin, highlighting his contributions to students’ education.
