Going the extra mile

-

I AM thankful for having continued my Sixth Form and met Puan Mahzabeen Ali Hussain, who was my form teacher. She also taught me Biology.

Let me begin by mentioning how committed and dedicated she was as a teacher. When I was in Lower Six, Puan Mahzabeen injured her toe badly and could have been on long medical leave.

Instead, she had her students’ interests before her and continued to teach. We knew she was in pain as she walked with great difficulty up the flight of stairs each morning to our classroom. I tried helping out by carrying her bundle of books but that was nothing compared to what she had to endure.

She had an extraordinary way of imparting knowledge which was why her Biology lessons were interesting. Puan Mahzabeen also had her unique way of making us remember important facts.

She gave out worksheets and pointers on answering techniques. She managed her time well, making sure that part of her lesson was allocated for only teaching while the rest of the time was for discussion.

Every student was special and she would have the patience to explain a topic until it was fully understood.

On the personal front, she was my adviser and “angel”, always comforting and saying the right things to boost my confidence.

Puan Mahzabeen, you made an impact in my life as I am now more mature and look at life from a different perspective.

Thank you for being that special teacher!
