Thoughtful gestures
A SIMPLE homemade card with colour pencil drawings from a pupil brought tears to SK Bandar Utama Damansara 4 teacher Erny Liana Mohd Yasin on Teachers Day last Wednesday.
The English language teacher said she was touched by the effort of her students who drew her cards as some of them could not afford to buy gifts.
“All I want is for my pupils to understand the lessons well in the classroom, that alone will be a very good Teachers Day gift for me,” said Erny Liana, adding that she had a storeroom at home dedicated to the collection of presents from her pupils.
The air of festivity filled SK Bandar Utama Damansara 4 with pupils giving their teachers chocolates, flowers, cupcakes and other presents on their special day.
Year Four pupil Mia Marissa Taufik bought her favourite teacher Khairil Rizal an accessory item with her pocket money.
“I like my teacher because he is very kind and fun to be with although he can be a bit strict sometimes,” said Mia Marissa.
Year Six pupil Abdul Hadi Amir Suffian said Khairil was a dedicated rugby coach in school.
Khairil who teaches Living Skills and Art said while teaching achrore could be challenging, it was a very rewarding profession.
“There are certainly more good teaching ng days than bad ones,” said Khairil who also won the Best Discipline Teacher award.
Rusmazura Che Halid who teaches Moral Studies, said that it was important for teachers to connect with pupils. She added that she kept in touch with her former pupils through Facebook.
“It gives me great joy when my former pupils pay me a visit from time to time,” said Rusmazura who has been teaching for 14 years.
Meanwhile, Teachers Day came early for SK Seri Bintang Selatan senior assistant Lim Choo Siem who started receiving gifts from her pupils two weeks ago.
The veteran teacher who has taught for almost 35 years, said it was always nice when pupils show their appreciation towards teachers.
