From one victim to another ...

Acid attack survivor Tan Hui Linn has sent a note to the woman who was victim of an alleged murder attempt.

GEORGE TOWN: Acid attack survivor Tan Hui Linn has sent a note of encouragement to school teacher Yeoh Kar Tin, the victim of an alleged attempted murder, who suffered 45% burns on her body in a fire at her home early this month.

A friend of Tan handed the letter to Yeoh’s family yesterday.

In her note, it is learnt Tan expressed hope that her own experience would encourage Yeoh, 45, to persevere in her road to recovery.

She also expressed hope that Yeoh would maintain a positive outlook in her life.

Yeoh’s eldest son, Andrew Mak, 18, confirmed receiving the letter from Tan’s friend, but said the family had yet to show the note to his mother, who is still warded at the Penang Hospital’s intensive care unit.

Twenty-year-old Tan, who is studying accountancy at a private college in Kuala Lumpur, was attacked by her father, who also splashed acid on her mother, at their home in Penang on Oct 24, 2009.

Her mother, 50, died while Tan was blinded in the right eye and was left with limited vision in the other eye.

Well-wishers and the South Korean government helped her seek treatment in Seoul, where she went through several surgeries on parts of her face, body and limbs.

Despite her injuries, she went on to score 9As in her SPM and then to college.

Yeoh was allegedly assaulted at her flat in Taman Tun Hussein, Seberang Jaya, by her mother-in-law Lee Wei Mei, 63, on May 8.

Lee and her sister, Wei Chee, 60, were jointly charged in a Sessions Court in Butterworth with attempting to murder Yeoh and setting fire to her home.

Wei Mei was ordered by Sessions judge Ikmal Hisan Mohd Tajuddin to be sent to Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan for psychiatric observation while Wei Chee was allowed bail at RM30,000.

The court fixed June 18 to mention the case.
