Roman tells players: Get me three more!

-

LONDON: Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants four Champions League titles.

The billionaire Russian told his players their Saturday triumph is only the start.

Abramovich made the speech in the dressing room after the shootout win over Bayern Munich.

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said: “Roman told them that there is still plenty more to aim for.

“There’s a lot of clubs with three or four of those stars on their club badge. We have only one. Roman gave a thank you speech, the message was that it was all down to the boys.”

Bayern, Barcelona and Ajax have all been crowned champions four times, and wear stars on their shirt to signify the achievement.

Abramovich on Sunday joined his Chelsea team, who pocketed a £300,000-a-man bonus, on a victory bus parade around London, in front of 80,000 fans.

Striker Didier Drogba received a hero’s reception and Buck confirmed that last-ditch talks with the out-of-contact striker will start this week.

But even Red Rom will find it hard to match Drogba’s offer from China – an £11mil net two-year deal from Shanghai Shenhua.

Buck said: “We love Didier. But we have to think what’s right for Chelsea – and Didier has to do what’s right for him.”

But American lawyer Buck was less forthcoming on the future of caretaker boss Roberto Di Matteo.

That is despite players singing for him to stay in front of Abramovich on Saturday night.

Later, the Blues players threw Di Matteo into the pool at their Munich hotel.

Buck added: “We’ve heard from a number of the players that they’d like to see Robbie as manager.

“We haven’t set a timescale for a decision. Roman will be in London this week and we have to start thinking about it.” — The Sun, London
