Just another day at the office for Liverpool

- JAGDEV SINGH SIDHU jagdev@thestar.com.my

THE international break has seen its fair share of “breaking news” when it comes to Liverpool FC.

Fabio Borini broke his foot while training with Italy and news broke that the owners off Liverpool have decided to redevelop the legendary stadium instead of building a new one at Stanley Park. In between of Liverpool’s is thee patchy constant form, grumbling patchy Luis Suarez (pic) being taken to task yet again for diving andd injuries rearing its ugly head as Pepe Reina is now on the crock list.

Seems to be another day in the office for Liverpool fans, who must now be accustomed to the good, bad and ugly when it comesomes to matters of the club.

The good news is that Anfield will be redeveloped. A modern stadium is essential in today’s football as matchday revenues – the kind enjoyed by Manchester United and Arsenal – are a bigplus when it comes to strengthening the playing squad.

There has been no o official word on the cost of redeveloping Anfield, though h reports have estimated it to be £150mil.

The bad news though is Liverpool’s patchy form. The team, in my opinion, were expected to beat Stoke but they were simply not incisive enough in the final third of the pitch.

The ugly is the fact that Borini’s injury will see him out till January, leaving Suarez as the only experienced striker in the first team.

Putting all of Liverpool’s eggs in the temperamental Suarez’s basket to bang in the goals on a consistent basis is not ideal – but what options do the Reds have?

Youngsters Adam Morgan and Samed Yesil are the only back-ups. What will happen if Suarez goes down?

The way things are going, you just never know.

Up next for Liverpool is a home match against Reading.

Yes, expectations are going to be sky high, just like in the game against Stoke.

But Reds fans need to understand that a number of players are coming back from international duty and will be tired.

Having said that, the men in red will have to put their dismal performance against Stoke behind them and muster a performance worthy of the Red shirt.

The other danger is that with only Suarez leading the line, he may be taking on too much.

He is the type oof player who’ll always want to play and his passion will see him pushing through the pain barrier. But, like everyone else, there will be a limit to just how much and how long Suarez can sustain a top-level performance.

That situation needs to be handled with the greatest of care because the next two games are going to be really tough.

Jagdev Singh Sidhu wonders what will it take for Liverpool to consistently play to

their ability.
