Malaysian amateur continues fairy-tale run with clubhouse lead
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian amateur Kelly Tan continued her fairy-tale run by sharing the clubhouse lead heading into the final day of the Enjoy Jakarta Ladies Indonesia Open at the Palm Hill Golf Club in Jakarta.
Kelly joined over-night leader Smriti Mehra of India at three-under total after 32 holes.
Both golfers are playing in the same group and play was suspended when the skies opened up early in thehe afternoon. There was no improvement in the weather conditions and that forced the organisers to announce that play will resume at 7am today, with the final round play scheduled for not later than 8.30am.
Twenty-seven players did not complete their rounds yesterday.
The third player in the same group with Kelly and Mehra, Thailand’s Kongkrapan Patcharachuta was at two-under after 32 holes.
The 18-year-old Kelly, who featured for Malaysia on a sponsor’s exemption at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia last week, is hoping to maintain her form.
“It’s a pity the bad weather set in early today ... I was really enjoying playing alongside Simi (Mehra) and Kongkrapan. I want to continue playing well tomorrow,” said Kelly from Jakarta.
Mehra was not disturbed by having to complete her second round today.
“Maybe I have to wake up earlier than normal ... 4.30am perhaps. No worries, this has happened many times in my golfing career,” she said.
Another Malaysian amateur Michelle Koh also made a big move by finishing with the best score of four-under 68 for a two-round total of one-under 143.
Michelle managed to finish her round to move from 41st for a share of fourth with South Africa’s Connie Chen.
“Today I putted good and had a good feel on the green, though I struggled a bit with my drives but managed to keep it on the fairways,” said the 22-year-old who graduated in International Business at Campbell University in North Carolina in May.
“I never put any pressure on myself but was very relaxed all the way.
