A fruitful assembly for the women

-

AN apple a day keeps the doctor away, it is said.

But Wanita MCA believes an apple and an orange is the way to not only keep the doctor at bay, but also to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The 1,032 Wanita delegates who attended the 37th annual general assembly yesterday were given a coupon to redeem a “door gift” consisting of an apple and orange in a pretty pink cloth bag.

The delegates were in a lively mood and welcomed the surprise gift.

Marang division Wanita chief Lee Ai Hwa said the gift of fruits might be humble but the meaning is profound.

“The fruits might be small but the benefits are enormous. Eating fruits daily improves our health,” she said.

Petaling Jaya division deputy chief Wong Fong Leng said this was the first time she had received such a gift.

“It is so special and we understood the message – which is to remind us to eat healthily,” she said.

MCA deputy president and Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said on Friday night the party offered fruits for members because it was a fact Malaysians eat very little fruit.

He said the move would encourage people to eat well, adding that more than 50% of the population were either obese or overweight, which resulted in many lifestylerelated diseases.
