Najib: Let other countries emulate us
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak called on Malaysians to celebrate the country’s peace and stability in a way that can be emulated by other countries.
“We should celebrate the peace that we have here, which, unfortunately, has been taken for granted.
“The peaceful atmosphere that we have here can be attributed to close comradeship between Malaysians of different races and faiths,” he said.
“As Malaysians, we always cherish honesty, compassion and moderation.
“These values have helped shape a Malaysia that is not only united, but one that upholds the principles of social justice despite the challenges faced by a multi-cultural and multi-religious society,” he said at the TiRatana Welfare Society’s 15th anniversary celebrations here last night.
On another matter, Najib expressed his appreciation to the charitable and welfare groups for complementing the Government’s work in contributing to those in need.
He launched the welfare society’s new project of a four-storey building for the underprivileged, and pledged RM500,000 from the Government for the RM8mil project.
The society’s founder and adviser Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana thanked Najib for his contribution and expressed hope that more donors would help fund the project, which was mooted in honour of the late Datuk Roger Tan, who had been a trustee in the organisation.
