Rais to study MCMC’S call to halt porn bloggers’ interviews

-

PETALINGJAYA: Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim will study the last-minute decision of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to block the airing of the radio interviews with the young couple who gained infamy with their erotic porn blog.

“I will look at the report. But it must be understood that no matter how modern we are, we should not emphasise on the value to popularise pornography whether directly or indirectly.

“We do not encourage pornography on the Internet nor should we entertain it,” he told reporters after launching the biography Zubir Said: The Composer of Majulah Singapura which was written by his daughter Puan Sri Dr Rohana Zubir.

Dr Rais said the final decision on whether the interviews would be aired would rest with MCMC. He had previously stated that action could be taken against the couple under the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee gained fame and notoriety over the no holds barred porn blog which was first reported by a Singapore daily. They were front-paged in the Singapore newspapers and were interviewed by the Singapore-based Channel News Asia and the Republic’s radio station.

The news was picked up by several newspapers here with many criticising their actions.

The couple, in an exclusive interview with The Star Media Group’s radio stations, were grilled over their actions as well as the repercussions on their families and young ones.

The pre-recorded interviews on Red FM and Capital FM were supposed to be aired at 2pm Saturday before it was abruptly halted by MCMC.
