Important to have a positive outlook on life
AS October is the month of Cancer Awareness, it brings to my mind my experience with breast cancer.
I am a mother to four wonderful adult sons and a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren.
In 2008, I was daignosed with stage two breast cancer and on Nov 1, underwent a mastectomy of my right breast at the Putrajaya Hospital and was hospitalised there for about two-and-a-half weeks.
I realise now that it is never too late to be thankful and grateful to all the doctors, nurses as well as the cleaning staff of Ward B, Third Floor of Putrajaya Hospital for their excellent care and devotion to their work and patients.
The time I spent at the hospital, I experienced excellent care, attention, good meals, politeness round the clock! I shall never forget it.
I underwent six cycles of chemotherapy, lost all my hair and at each visit for my chemo, the doctor and nurses made me feel very comfortable and as pleasant as possible.
I am on preventive medicine and follow-up visits to the hospital until today. I feel fine now and have a thick head of hair.
I consider myself very lucky and blessed that I have been well taken care of as a patient by doctors and nurses of the hospital.
Also the love and support of my wonderful family and friends has had such a positive effect on me that I am a very happy person today.
In the four years now, I have been able to travel as far as Australia, India, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
I pray that I will be able to go on a round the world cruise with my husband.
I shall hold on to my dreams dearly and carry on with my life as best as I can for without my dreams and a positive outlook on life – I may not be what I am today.
Four years – cancer free and happy!
Once again Putrajaya Hospital, I salute you, your dedicated doctors and nurses.
It takes people to make a difference!
A salute too, to all the cancer survivors out there for their courage and determination to fight the battle and win the game of living well.
