Anwar’s Aussie request a shameless act, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s request that Australia intervene in the general election is a shameless act, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minsiter questioned the Opposition Leader’s motive when he had kept quiet after the Opposition won five states in the 2008 general election.

“Now he says there are 12-yearolds in the electoral roll. Show us the proof so we can address the problem. Don’t ask a foreign country to intervene. Don’t bring shame on our country,” Najib said when addressing representatives of 1,500 nongovernmental organisations at the launch of the Himpunan Barisan 1Malaysia yesterday.

Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr recently said his country had rejected Anwar’s petition as “the Malaysian elections were a matter for the Malaysian people”.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Bernama and Utusan Malaysia in conjunction with the Umno general assembly next week, Najib who is Umno president said the Opposition was so obsessed and desperate about capturing Putrajaya that its leaders were willing to do anything.

“People are saying that if they (Opposition) don’t win, they will hold street demonstrations, to show that our general election is unfair and not transparent.”

On PAS, Najib said the Umno general assembly should expose that party for what it is — a party that hides behind its Islamic image.

Najib also said the people were also still unclear about the policies to be implemented and the direction of Pakatan Rakyat if they won the coming election.
