Chance to perform live
Open Mic winners strut their stuff
PETALING JAYA: From performing YouTube videos to singing in front of a live audience – this is what the R.AGE Open Mic winners experienced on the opening day of Urbanscapes 2012.
The three unsigned acts had the opportunity to perform yesterday for the annual two-day creative arts festival that is in its 10th edition.
“I had a lot of fun although I was very nervous in the beginning. I felt a bit better and more confident after I started singing though,” said Natallie Ng, 19, one of the winners.
The participants had to submit a video of themselves performing any song with the winners chosen based on the numbers of “Likes” they got on R.AGE’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/rageonlineTV).
“I believe that R.AGE Open Mic gives up-and-coming musicians a platform to showcase their talent, and a chance to let others listen to their music on a wider scale,” said Ng.
Avalanche and Jumero were the other R.AGE Open Mic winners who wowed the crowd with outstanding performances.
Despite the wet and muddy ground at Padang Astaka here, the festival goers definitely enjoyed participating in the various fun and exciting activities lined up. Several indie bands entertained the crowd throughout the day and later international music sensation Yuna performed as part of her Homecoming Tour concert.
Today’s highlights will be a performance by Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros and the legendary Sheila Majid who is scheduled for a special appearance.
