Spelling made easier

-

CHILDREN learn to spell new words when they are given stimulating activities.

With this in mind, a new spelling programme called MySpellMe was introduced.

Offered by Brain Bytes, an online education company in Malaysia, the spelling tool functions like a game and allows users to learn new words in an enjoyable and confident way.

Stating that the programme is targeted particularly for preschoolers and primary school children, Brain Bytes chief operating officer Jimmy Leong said: “It encourages users to learn new vocabulary and strengthen their spelling skills. Above all, it improves their daily English.”

The idea of MySpellMe was mooted after the company witnessed a number of enthusiastic children clamouring to join the spelling bee contest during The Star carnival in November 2011.

During the event, Brain Bytes conducted a spelling contest for children aged four to 12.

Hundreds of parents queued up hoping to register their child for the contest but many had to be turned away due to the overwhelming response and limited time given.

It was this event that paved the way for MySpellMe.

“Those who use the programme can find a vast variety of words and it is exciting as kids will be timed when tested.

“By playing it regularly, you will see the difference in your spelling and listening ability. Users get achievement awards when they improve their score,” he said.

There are several features that make the MySpellMe website interesting and engaging to children.

The interactive website comes with seven levels, from kindergarten to Year Six. What makes it enjoyable is the fact that MySpellMe has its own avatar and indicates the spelling level of the child, thus inspiring them to spell and learn while having fun.

MySpellMe is currently available free of charge for a limited time.
