MANY will instantly recognise Kate Bosworth as the actress who portrayed Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane in the 2006 film Superman Returns. With a brand new cosmetics gig and several movies in the pipeline, you’ll be seeing more of her in the near future.
The actress with angelic looks (and unusual eyes – one hazel, one blue) has recently been appointed global ambassador for skincare giant SK-II, and Bosworth, who has used SK-II products for years, is thrilled about the partnership.
“Being a global ambassador for SK-II is an honour. I am impressed with the brand. They are thoughtful about their customer. The brand puts time and care into research to understand skin, how it changes, and what we can do to take care of it,” says the 29-year-old American actress in an email interview.
“When I think of SK-II, I think of a company with integrity. I am thrilled to be a part of this company,” she adds.
Bosworth joins another ethereal, elven-like beauty Cate Blanchett as one of the several ambassadors the brand, which recently became P&G’s first Asia home-grown brand to cross the billion dollar mark. “I have always held Cate Blanchett in the highest regard and I look forward to working with her at SK-II,” says Bosworth of her fellow ambassador.
True to the words she will undoubtedly utter in future ads, Bosworth says her flawless skin is a result of dilligence and discipline, and SK-II. “Morning, I cleanse with SK-II cleanser, then apply the facial treatment essence, followed by cellumination serum, and in the evening – cleanse, facial treatment essence, followed by the skin signature cream,” she explains.
“It’s wonderful to get a full nights rest, but that’s often a luxury and not a reality for me with my work schedule and travel. If I want to feel instantly more fresh (heading to an event or after traveling), I will use an SK-II full revival mask after cleansing and before moisturising.”
The actress, a champion equestrian at age 14, has been (by blockbuster standards) rather quiet since her breakthrough role in Superman Returns, despite positive reviews of her performance in this and previous films ( The Horse Whisperer, Blue Crush).
In 2008 she starred in 21, a film inspired by the true story of the MIT Blackjack Team as told in Ben Mezrich’s novel Bringing Down the House, fantasy action film The Warriors Way, and several short films.

That said, she puts her heart and soul into every role, making a lasting impression on audiences instead of making numerous desperate attempts at being memorable by accepting any script that comes her way.
“As an actress, I am interested in communicating something honest to the audience,” says Bosworth. “I am attracted to strong women, while also portraying a vulnerability. Roles become more interesting at this age as I am more self-aware and life experience can inform the character in a deeper way.”
At the moment, she is working on a film called Homefront with Jason Statham, James Franco, and Winona Ryder, and coming out this year is Big Sur, directed by Michael Polish (her fiance) based on Jack Karouac’s novel.
“I look forward to exploring all different types of roles- it’s important to find a personal connection to each character,” she adds.
“With more life experience, I am enjoying more and more interests. Cinematically, I love working with my fiancé and we have a few films in preproduction. I would like to work with him as much as possible.”
Always looking polished and chic, with not a hair out of place and minimal make-up, Bosworth is a natural beauty with a taste for the classic.
“I tend to keep my look classic and minimalist, but also like to experiment with texture and print. Olivier Theyskens, Preen, Proenza Schouler, Raf Simons, Joseph Altuzarra are some of my favourite designers,” she says.
A search for any gossip on Bosworth returns with almost zero results – a testament to the actresses’ firm grip on her personal matters and her keeping out of trouble.
“Growing up is hard in general. You just have to learn from experience and make each moment the greatest it can be,” she says, adding, “I am fortunate to have great parents and wonderful friends who have all had a positive impact on my life.”
