KUALA LUMPUR: Enjelleen Anthonysamy thought that after five operations in four years to remove clots in her right ovary, her health problems would be over.

However, the 34-year-old’s health problems have only been compounded when she was assaulted by a snatch thief while walking to a bus-stop in Jalan Ipoh on Aug 8.

As a result, the administration officer now suffers from frequent abdominal pain.

Enjelleen then turned to MIC for help when she realised that she did not have enough money to undergo more surgeries.

At a press conference organised by the party’s Youth wing on Friday, Enjelleen said she had spent nearly RM50,000 on surgeries to remove a cyst in her breast, a growth in her ovary and in addition, underwent an operation to treat endometriosis – all since 2008.

Endometriosis is a female health disorder that occurs when cells from the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other areas of the body.

This can lead to pain, irregular bleeding and infertility.

“I do not earn much and I now need another RM25,000 for another operation,” Enjelleen said.

MIC Youth chief T. Mohan said the movement had started a campaign to raise funds for Enjelleen whose operation had been scheduled for Dec 14.

“On our part, we will contribute RM5,000,” he added.

Mohan said the wing had also requested for financial assistance from the 1MCA Medical Foundation as well as the MIC-owned Yayasan Pumilihan Sosial (YPS) and Yayasan Strategik Sosial (YSS).

Those who want to contribute can send their cheques to Enjelleen Anthonysamy Fund c/o MIC Youth, 12, Jalan PBP 5, Taman Industri Pusat Bandar Puchong, 47100 Selangor, or deposit their donations into Alliance Bank account number 1208-8002-0098862.
