Hiv-infected family driven out of home

-

MALAYSIA Nanban reported that a family of six was forced out of their house in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, by their neighbours who found out that they were HIV positive.

The parents and four children were forced out after an NGO worker allegedly informed the neighbours that four of them were infected by the AIDS virus. The neighbours also assaulted some of the family members.

The wife, who is pregnant, was admitted to hospital due to injuries.

After she was discharged, the family wandered the streets and ended up squatting on a railway platform for over 20 days.

A local NGO, Jodhpur Network of People Living with AIDS, spotted the family and, through the welfare department, they were taken back to their home.

> Makkal Osai reported that a 28-year-old man was allegedly gunned down by his wife’s brothers in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

Abdul Hakeem and Mehwish, a girl from his village in Aroli, were married in 2010 against the wishes of their parents. They fled the village after getting married. Over the past two years, Mehwish’s family allegedly kept threatening Abdul and the couple avoided visiting their village out of fear.

When Abdul’s mother fell ill, the two returned to Aroli. On Thursday, Abdul had an argument with Mehwish’s brothers.

Abdul, along with the brothers, went to the local police station to solve the argument.

However, the brothers allegedly gunned down Abdul on their way back from the police station.
