Money loaded into unused card ‘eaten up’

-

I AM shocked that my hard-earned money loaded into my Touch n Go Card has an expiry date. The public must know this and the company concerned must give an acceptable explanation that money paid upfront to them can expire.

I bought an extra Touch n Go card about two years ago because as I returned from a trip to Singapore, I needed to pay toll.

The only way to pay toll at the Causeway was to use Touch n Go, as there was nobody manning the toll gate there. There was a Touch and Go booth nearby and I thought Touch n Go is customer-friendly enough to solve the inconvenience.

However, when I needed to use the same card two years later, I was told that the card was blocked. I had to face the inconvenience of getting a ticket instead of using my card.

Upon checking at the office, I was shocked to be told that the money inside my card had expired!

This was the first time in my life I was told that the money loaded into my card could not be used anymore because it had expired. The explanation was that the card had not been used for two years and so was blocked, and the money in it was “eaten up”.

Even if there had been a condition that the card had to be kept active, it does not make sense for the amount of money to be taken away by the company because we had left it unused.

What services did the company render to the holder of the unused card for the money to be taken away? TENG Batu Pahat
