Two children among five killed in MPV-tanker crash

-

MERSING: Two young children were among five family members killed in a collision involving their MPV and a tanker along the EndauMersing road here.

Another child travelling in the family’s MPV survived the crash and has been admitted to Mersing Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the tanker was not injured.

The family, from Felda Air Tawar 5 in Kota Tinggi, was heading towards Jengka in Pahang when the accident occurred at about 7.30am yesterday.

Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Nor Rasid said initial police investigations showed that the driver of the MPV had lost control of the vehicle because of the rain and was on the opposite lane where the truck was coming at them.

“The road was slippery due to the heavy rain,” he said, adding that the bodies of the dead had been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

He urged road users to be extra careful during the monsoon season to avoid accidents.

Four of the dead were identified as Abdullah M. Yusof, 43, his wife Samsiah Maidin, 37, and their children Muhammad Aiman Syakirin Abdulah, eight, and Maisarah Abdullah, four.

The other victim was Samsiah’s sister Noraini Maidin, 41.
