Two DAP members want ROS to probe polls

-

PUTRAJAYA: Two DAP life members have claimed there was manipulation in the party’s recent elections and want the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to investigate.

Party’s Ladang Paroi branch vice chairman David Dass A., who was a delegate at the 16th DAP national congress on Dec 15, said he was shocked over the admission of Zairil Khir Johari into the central executive committee (CEC) almost three weeks after the official election results were announced.

The party had earlier this month admitted to a tabulation error in the results, which saw Zairil moved up from 39th to 20th position, giving him the last elected spot in the CEC.

“I am shocked by the way the DAP leadership had manipulated the democratic election process by declaring (Zairil) an elected member of the CEC.

“This was a clear case of fraud and manipulation and is against the democratic process and the DAP’s slogan of competency, accountability and transparency.

“I hope the ROS will take the necessary action to investigate this matter under the Societies Act,” said Dass, who urged the party leadership to call for a fresh election.

Zairil is the political aide of party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and the sole Malay candidate who won a place in the CEC.

Also with Dass yesterday was branch secretary Mahendran Krishan. The two submitted letters of complaint to ROS management director Desmond Das at the lobby of its office here.

The party leadership had conducted an internal audit with verification by external auditors following the discovery of the error.
